Internet safety 
As children use the internet more regularly, safety within the world wide web is of paramount importance.  This site will give child friendly information about staying safe online. Through cartoons it presents the ideas http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/Default.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

We developed the following rules to ensure the privacy and safety of pupils when using the Internet:

• Children will not be named on our webpages.
• No close up pictures of our children will be available Online.
• Children and staff will never reveal their personal details, and home addresses & telephone numbers on the web or in dialogue with other Internet users.
• Children do not have individual E-mail addresses.
• All E-mail to classes will be moderated by the classteacher.
• Children will not engage in conversation or dialogue with other users on the Internet without permission or supervision from their teacher.
• Children are only allowed to use the provided links by themselves. The free use of Search Engines, is not permitted, unless in the presence of a teacher or other adult in school.
• The Search Engines used by children at The Dales School all offer a filtered list of links.
• Any child finding themselves uncomfortable or upset by anything they discover on the Internet will report it to a teacher immediately.
• Downloading of files is restricted to staff.
• Children have no access to Newsgroups.
• All Internet access at The Dales School is filtered through a proxy server to screen undesirable sites at source - this facility is however not infallible and children should not be unsupervised on computers.

A note to parents:

• The school recognises that, under certain circumstances, the Internet can give children access to undesirable information and images. We have done all that is possible to ensure children are protected from such information through the use of security software, limiting of features and the construction of an Intranet and Website that provide as safe an environment as possible. The children are taught to use the facility sensibly and with proper consideration for others.
• It is recommended that parents using the Internet at home with children, develop a similar set of rules and invest in appropriate security software, e.g: Netnanny, Cyberpatrol or Surfwatch.
