This year 2009 the school building at The Dales School turned 100 years old. It has truly stood the test of time and is still a robust and comfortable building which is now home to our very special school. To celebrate the 100 year anniversary we held a party and invited previous pupils and staff. Many who came along to the party have fond memories, they brought photos and were able to talk to the children about the school in the past, a real live history lesson. Children visitors and parents alike took part in fun activities including crafts and games which would have happened in the school 100 years ago.
We cooked 100 cakes and put a candle in each one.
We attached labels to 100 balloons with the school phone number and released them on 9th September 2009. We were thrilled to receive phone calls from people who found the balloons in York , Whitby, Pickering, Marske by the Sea and even as far away as Grantham in Lincolnshire. We used the experience with the balloons as a basis for a music project which involved all the children in the school and culminated in a wonderful performance.
